Book needed more about Holland as he was the central force to the story. Lots of interesting historical details and enough plot twists to keep you interested. You may not grow attached to the characters, but this book did lead to a lively book club discussion.

Well written, with sentences and language that can be savored. Lots of detail about 1950s San Francisco. The story of Pearlie, her enigmatic husband, Holland, and the strange man who shows up at Pearlie's front door one morning and offers her $100,000 has enough to sustain book club discussions.
