Sophie befriends Calcifer, the fire demon who powers the castle and who is bound to Howl by a contract, the terms of which Calcifer cannot reveal. They promise to help each other with their problems. Like Calcifer, Howl can also see through the Witch's spell, and he and Sophie fall in love. Sophie helps Howl confront his former teacher, and the Witch of the Waste.

One of my favorite movies! I watched it for the first time as an adult at 23, and I still loved it. The soundtrack and the animation are top-notch. Highly recommended!

What a great movie! I have to say, unlike the book, there were practically no surprising twists. Gets confusing at times, even if you DID read the book. Gorgeous visuals. It's become my second favorite Ghibli film, after Kiki's Delivery Service

I watched this with my son, who is an anime enthusiast. As with all Studio Ghibli films the visuals are gorgeous, and the imagination is incredible. Also as with all Studio Ghibli films I feel like there's something I'm missing. If you're a kid you won't notice, and if you're an anime enthusiast you will notice and embrace it.
The plot manages to be simultaneously plodding and confusing, but the Sophie character is truly engaging. Howl himself lurches between creepy and petulant, and is dubbed by Christian Bale reprising his Batman voice.
On my next Studio Ghibli film I am going to try the subtitles instead of the distracting overdubs. Experience this one for the visuals!

Amazing artwork and animation. The beauty of the movie can only be topped by the amazing storyline and direction of master Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Think I. A masterpiece that must be experienced.

Howl’s Moving Castle is an amazingly animated piece of art that completely envelops you in this fantastical world that it creates. The music is amazing, the characters are beautifully crafted and built with their quirks and personalities, it is truly an amazing movie that can be enjoyed by anyone at any age. The world, even though built around this concept of spells and magic, is believable and every aspect of it is handled to create the best possible viewing experience, and the quality of time spent working on all the animation for this movie is not one to be glazed over, every scene, every spectacle, is a beautiful piece of art. Overall, Howl’s Moving Castle is a beautiful movie 5/5

As a teen, I am often told that 'it's time to grow up' or 'that's too childish' and that makes me miss the freedom of being a kid. Studio Ghibli did not disappoint as always when it came to turning their viewers back in time when things just made sense and I would recommend their movies to all ages especially this one. Howl's Moving Castle is a work of art that pulls the heartstrings of everyone and gives off a vibe of fun and wisdom that are hard to put together. Can't seem to find an appropriate but also entertaining movie to watch with the family? Sit back, relax, and enjoy this wonderful story that you'll be sure to remember! 5/5 stars

“Howls moving castle” was released in 2004 and in my opinion, is one of the best animation movies by far. It has a beautiful animation style; an interesting and well-thought-out story and the soundtrack is outstanding. I love how it contains such a fantasy-like feeling to it, especially the town and howls castle including the potions and knickknacks in his room. One of my favourite scenes was when Howl made breakfast which was so visually appealing. The main characters are all very likeable and as the story gets deeper, you become attached to each of them and feel all sorts of emotions even when they are cheerful and exciting or depressing and sorrowful. I would change nothing about this film. It was beautifully displayed, and the story is well thought of. I highly would recommend this anyone who loves animation movies and enjoys an adventure, romance, and fantasy film, especially if you like Studio Ghibli movies. I rate this film a 5/5.

Howl's Moving Castle is a 2004 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The film is loosely based on the 1986 novel of the same name by British author Diana Wynne Jones. I enjoyed watching this film because it has a great musical soundtrack, animation, and a pleasantly thought out storyline. I would recommend this to children 7 and up. Some scenes that were stunning to look at were the inside of Howl’s room where you get to see all the little trinkets and potions. This movie has a good mix of romance and challenge for the main characters and it’s a fun watch for the family. Rating: 5/5

This movie blew my mind, it is a great movie.

Not a bad movie, per se... but basically no resemblance to the book on which it is supposedly based. They should have given it a different title if it was going to be so vastly different than the source material.

Young Sophie: [Approaches The Witch Of The Waste while she tries to hide Howl's heart from her] Howl needs that back now
Witch of the Waste: Don't at me, I don't have it, I don't know what you're talking about
Young Sophie: [hugs her] Please give it back
Witch of the Waste: You really want it that badly?
Young Sophie: [on the verge of crying] Yes
Witch of the Waste: Alright then, you'd better take good care of it
Young Sophie: Okay
Witch of the Waste: [hands her Howl's heart] Here dear
Young Sophie: Thank you you have a big heart!

[Howl comes running out of the bathroom, screaming. His hair is now orange]
Howl: Sophie! You, you sabotaged me! Look! Look at what you've done to my hair! Look!
Old Sophie: What a pretty color.
Howl: It's hideous! You completely ruined my magic potions in the bathroom!
Old Sophie: I just organized things, Howl. Nothing's ruined.
Howl: Wrong! Wrong! I specifically ordered you not to get carried away!
Howl: Now I'm repulsive.
[slumps into a chair]
Howl: I can't live like this.
[starts sobbing, head in hands]
Old Sophie: Come on, it's not that bad.
[Howl's hair changes color to purple, then black]
Old Sophie: You should look at it now, its shade is even better.
Howl: [inconsolable] I give up. I see not point in living if I can't be beautiful.
