Really good! Tells the tale of Bo and Prosper, two kids running from their HORRIBLE aunt. Along the way they have run ins with a detective who might not be who he seems, a lying leader, who is definitely not who he seems, a mysterious merry-go-round that could change the world, and so much more. Loved the twists! If you are looking for something that will catch your attention and a tale that looks into our true dreams inside, I think this is the one. A cross between mystery and adventure. A quote-"What should I do? he thought. Tell me, what should I do? But the moon did not answer."

Great book!! Recommended for 10+ But the movie is good for all ages. About 2 orphan boys and their struggle to stay free from their Evil Aunt. Mysterious people hire their boss The thief lord to steal an object that might be more valuable then they are letting on.

This was my favorite novel when I was younger. It's still way up there on the list for me. "The Thief Lord" is an amazing tale for readers young and old. A lot of kids are in a hurry to grow up and a lot of adults seem to long for the days they could be a child or at least wish they had known to enjoy those days. "The Thief Lord" unpacks that with a touch of magic and fantasy thrown in. Think back to all the times as a kid when you wished you could be an adult to make your own decisions. What if you could have grown up immediately at that moment? Would you have taken that chance? Flip it around--what if you could go back to being a child? It's not necessarily a chance to re-do your life, but what if you woke up tomorrow and you were five-years-old knowing everything you know now? Sounds pretty sweet, but would you take that chance? "The Thief Lord" shows both sides, if you look deep enough. It reminds young readers to enjoy being a kid and it allows older readers to reminisce. The book doesn't condemn the choices, either way. It's very clear that there are a lot of things you can only get away with as a child and there's other things that you can only accomplish as an adult. One can't have the best of both worlds, but "The Thief Lord" does an amazing job highlighting the best moments in all stages of life. It's not about growing up too fast--it's about taking time to smell the roses no matter what sage of life you are in. For that reason, I truly believe that "The Thief Lord" is a timeless masterpiece that has something for any reader--whether they are nine or ninety.

This book is an amazing read. I've read it over and over again - Cornelia Funke is one of my favorite authors, and the Thief Lord is just one of her many wonderful books. The characters are detailed and fit into the plot perfectly, making this a book I suggest strongly for everyone.

Welcome to Venice, city of canals, home to splendid basilicas, and roost for pigeons and winged lions. For the orphaned brothers Prosper and Bo, however, Venice is more than a paradise; it is a sanctuary that protects the two from their unpleasant aunt and uncle.

Amid abandoned movie theatres and alleyways, the brothers find refuge among unlikely companions. The tightly-knit group of young thieves led under the elusive "Thief Lord" offer Prosper and Bo shelter, home, and warmth.

But when a mysterious request arrives from an even more mysterious man, a sequence of astounding events is set in motion. As Prosper and Bo struggle to stay together despite their relatives' interference, the true identity of "the Thief Lord" is revealed and trust is tested. Amid all the commotion is the request which guides the brothers and their companions to "growing up".

A time-unraveling tale of magic and mystery, of which perhaps the greatest of all is the "coming of age".
