Released back in 1931 - "The Champ" is a fairly entertaining "King Vidor" production.

Viewed from a bleak perspective - This film's story tells the tale of an alcoholic ex-prizefighter who's desperately trying to make a comeback, while, at the same time, attempting to make a decent living so that he can prove to be a positive support and influence on his 9-year-old son.

Set in Los Angeles, California - This pre-code drama, starring Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper, won its adult star (Beery) an Oscar for "Best Actor".

This picture was one of the most popular Hollywood productions of its time.

(*Memorable movie quote*) - "Keep your chin up!"

Set in Los Angeles - 1931's "The Champ" is quite an intense and often endearing "Father'n'Son" story about Andy Purcell, a single father who's a washed-up prizefighter, and his intimate relationship with his 9-year-old son, Dink. (Yep. That's the kid's name, alright)

It is, of course, the convincing on-screen rapport that takes place between Wallace Beery (as Andy) and Jackie Cooper (as Dink) that makes "The Champ" a worthwhile movie-experience.

*Note* - If you happen to be on the sentimental side, you may just find that this film's story has a tendency to tug on the strings of your heart.
