In a perfect world, there would be a new CJ Box book to read every week. This writer uses his words sparsely, but it actually enhances the reading and helps the reader understand the characters' personalities and what drives them to act…

Stunning. This is the best of the Cassie Dewell series by Box. Western Gothic to the max. The plot and setting and characters are unforgettable and unpredictable.

Better than average read. Though I questioned why the "bad guys" went to such a complicated scheme to achieve their ends.

Good story, tense, especially the second half.

Okay, I'm recovering from Covid and just needed some easy entertainment. Like other C.J.B. novels, it's an easy but enjoyable read. A couple of afternoons and you have completed the book.

Good escape from the problems of the world… plus some of the descriptions of Montana and the bitter roots are interesting… improbable characters, plot just perfect for what it is….

Another excellent book - could not put it down!

Another good mystery from Box. As so often happens with Box's novels, the sense of place is a major character. Cassie is an interesting character and I look forward to her growing in future works. The story line is familiar, but with a…

4 1/2-5 star read. This is the 4th book in Box's excellent Cassie Dewell series and it was a great book. Dewell is hired by her friend, defense attorney Rachel to investigate a seemingly open and shut case against a client she…

I found in my old atlas the cities mentioned. I had to go to Google to get references to anything with 'bitterroots' in the name. Montana is a fairly large state with a unique shape where the the majority of the cities are in the…

A good mystery that moves along and keeps you guessing, along with a side plot that is terrifying. Box writes beautifully. And I really enjoy this female character, Cassie.

I much prefer the author's Joe Pickett series. The characters in this novel seemed to me to be stereotypical. Also, it was hard to believe the female character could be a successful PI - not thorough in doing background checks, fumbling,…

This was a pretty good read. Somewhat predictable but still had lots of twists and turns. It was up to the usual CJ Box standards which means it was entertaining.

While not a Joe Pickett novel, it is a very good read. Without the burden of keeping readers up on the present and past of so many characters from the lengthy series of Pickett lore, the author is free to tell a largely unencumbered tale…

We are big C. J. Box fans, but this book does not live up to his writing ability. "The Bitterroots" was a BITTER disappointment!

C. J. Box's THE BITTERROOTS is a very entertaining read with lots of action and plenty of twists and turns. This is NOT, however, JOE PICKETT novel. I am not sure if this will be a stand-alone novel, or the start of a series with a…

As a former law enforcement officer, Cassie doesn’t want to work for a defense attorney. Especially on a case where a man has been arrested for raping his 15-year-old niece. However, Rachel assures Cassie she doesn’t have to dig up…
